Brisbane Boys’ College (BBC) is a GPS boys school with day and boarding students through to Year 12. The creation of the Old Collegians Association (OCA) in 1920 aimed to create a sense of tradition and permanency in the BBC community.
An online directory launched in 2017 using directerly has extended the reach of that community and opened it up to further networking opportunities whilst providing an advertising forum to raise funds in support of the Association.
The BBC directerly is accessible by the entire school community, including past and present students, parents and friends. It offers a way to promote or connect with businesses in the BBC community, as well as provide employment opportunities for graduating students.
We spoke to Jarrod, Director of Alumni and Community at Brisbane Boys’ College about how they found the setup process after signing up to directerly. Read the full interview below:
How did your staff find using directerly?
It has been a piece of cake. The admin, approval, updating and financial side of things has all gone very smoothly.
What do you consider the most impressive features of directly?
I would have to say the gallery, video, social media links and job board.
Have you had any feedback from your advertisers?
Yes – that it is the most user-friendly setup that they have seen with the best features available for advertisers.
Has your school used another online directory system previously?
We have had a business directory in the past but nothing online.
How does directerly compare in usability, appearance and cost?
The top of the tree for each.
Do you have plans to use directerly in other ways in the future? Eg for students etc?
Yes we do – for our young alumni and senior students. Whether it be for work experience, job opportunities or career advice, we see huge benefits for those groups.
What do you plan to do with income produced from directerly?
We will be used to support the Old Collegians’ Association’s programs and events.
The OCA is an important part of the BBC make-up with members helping to make a real difference to students and the wider community. The new online directory is a powerful engagement tool within this community that has been readily supported.
